Cherry Blossoms, Morning Light, and a Pup Named Layla
Some sessions just feel right from the moment you start. Catherine and James met me at David Lam Park early one spring morning with their sweet pup Layla trotting beside them. The park was quiet. The cherry blossoms were at their peak. The light was soft and golden. It felt like we had the whole place to ourselves.

Catherine’s Dream: Cherry Blossom Engagement Photos
This session was not random. Catherine had always wanted engagement photos under the cherry blossoms. We kept an eye on the bloom schedule for weeks, checking every few days, and chose the perfect morning when everything lined up. If you have a specific vision like this, it is worth the planning and the patience. The blooms framed them in soft pinks and whites, the ocean views stretched out behind us, and the greenery tied it all together. It was the kind of setting that you just cannot recreate any other time of year.

Why David Lam Park Works So Well
David Lam Park is one of my favorite spots for cherry blossom engagement photos, especially if you have a dog. There is space to move around, grassy areas for your pup, and the ocean and skyline give you variety without changing locations. In the morning, the light reflects beautifully off the water and buildings, and the park is quiet. It feels private, which makes it easier to relax and be yourselves.

Layla the Dog: The Real Star of the Shoot
Layla brought pure joy to this session. The second she jumped into the frame, Catherine and James lit up. That is the thing about including your dog. It makes the photos feel more like you. Yes, it takes a little extra planning, but the comfort, laughter, and genuine moments are worth it. If your dog is part of your life together, they can be part of your engagement photos too.

Tips for Including Your Dog in Your Session
- Pick the right time of day. Mornings are cooler, calmer, and less distracting.
- Bring a helper. A friend can hold your dog while we get a few couple-only shots.
- Pack treats and water. It keeps your dog happy and motivated.
- Use a leash that photographs well. A simple leather or neutral color works best.
- Let it be natural. Your dog will not always follow the plan and that is fine. Those moments often make the best photos.

Is a Cherry Blossom Session Worth the Wait
If you want engagement photos that feel soft, romantic, and unique to a specific season, then yes. Cherry blossom season is short, but the results are unlike anything else. You get light, color, and texture that only exist for a few weeks in spring. And if you have a dog, David Lam Park is one of the easiest and most beautiful spots to make it happen.

This was more than a pretty morning with nice weather. It was about capturing the real love between Catherine and James and the happiness that Layla brings to their life. If you are dreaming of photos that feel this personal and meaningful, the wait and planning are worth every smile add a kind of joy to your photos that you just can’t fake.
