Brix and Mortar Vancouver Wedding Venue Guide:

Costs, Spaces & What to Expect

I get asked about Brix and Mortar a lot. Couples see that glass-covered courtyard draped in ivy and candlelight and they’re immediately drawn in. And honestly? It deserves the attention.

Here’s my take on the space, from someone who’s photographed inside it.

Tommy’s Thoughts on Brix and Mortar

Brix is a Yaletown restaurant, not a traditional event hall. That’s its greatest strength and also what makes it the wrong fit for some couples.

It works best for couples with somewhere between 20 and 80 guests who want an intimate, restaurant-style celebration that feels personal rather than produced. If you want warm candlelight, exposed brick, a covered courtyard that photographs beautifully in any season, and food that genuinely impresses your guests, this is your place.

If you need a blank slate, a massive dance floor, or an outdoor garden setting, it probably isn’t.

Is This Venue Right for You?

Brix sits in Yaletown, right in the heart of downtown Vancouver. It’s one of the few venues in the city that offers both a ceremony and reception space in the same place, completely covered. David Lam Park is a short walk away and stunning for portraits. The Vancouver Public Library is close. Stanley Park is reachable. The city itself becomes part of your day in a way that most venues simply can’t offer.

The trade-off is parking. Downtown parking is expensive, limited, and stressful for guests who aren’t used to navigating it. The Opus Hotel is one block away and offers preferred rates for Brix couples, which is the cleanest solution I’ve seen for out-of-town guests and anyone who wants to make a full night of it. If your guest list is local and comfortable taking transit or a rideshare, it’s a non-issue. If you’re expecting a lot of people driving in from the suburbs, it’s worth flagging in your invitations.

What Does It Cost, Roughly?

Brix runs on food and beverage minimums rather than a flat venue rental fee. For a full Saturday evening buyout, that minimum is in the $13,000 to $15,000 range, before a 20% service charge and taxes. Weeknight and Sunday evenings start lower. Ceremony fees and venue fees stack on top of that.

For most couples doing a full Saturday night wedding with 60 to 70 guests, expect the total to sit comfortably above $20,000 once everything is in. That’s consistent with what a quality Vancouver restaurant wedding costs, and what you’re getting in return is a space that barely needs decorating and a team that has seen everything.

Venue pricing changes frequently. Reach out to Brix directly for current rates before building your budget around anything specific.

A Few Things Worth Knowing

The courtyard is covered year-round. No rain plan needed. That’s genuinely rare for a Vancouver ceremony space.

Dogs are welcome during the ceremony as long as they’re leashed and out before food service begins.

Put 1138 Homer Street on your invitations. Brix has two entrances and guests showing up at the wrong one causes real chaos.

No confetti, sparklers, or real petals on the property. Bubbles are allowed and honestly photograph just as well.

The Opus Hotel is one block away and offers preferred rates for Brix couples. Great for out-of-town guests and anyone who wants to make a full night of it in Yaletown.

Frequently Asked Questions About Brix and Mortar Weddings in Vancouver

How many guests can Brix and Mortar accommodate for a wedding? The full Homer buyout seats up to 84 for plated dinner. The courtyard private buyout seats up to 36. The Homer Dining Room seats up to 44. The Hamilton Room seats up to 24 and works best with 18 or fewer. Ceremony-only events in the courtyard fit up to 34 seated guests.

Can we do our ceremony and reception both at Brix? Yes. The full Homer buyout is built for exactly this. Ceremony in the glass-covered courtyard, then guests flow into dinner and dancing in the main room without anyone going anywhere.

Do we need a wedding planner? Not necessarily. Brix provides a dedicated events manager and an experienced team who know how to run a full wedding day. If you have complex décor or a lot of outside vendors to coordinate, a day-of coordinator is worth it. But plenty of couples navigate Brix successfully with just the in-house team.

What décor is included with the venue? White or black linen, crystal oil candles, black lanterns, table numbers, and custom printed menus are all included. You can bring in florals and additional décor through your own vendors. No confetti, sparklers, tapered candles, or real flower petals anywhere on the property.

Is parking a problem at Brix? It can be. Brix is in downtown Yaletown, which means street parking is limited and paid lots are nearby but not free. I always suggest letting guests know in advance and recommending the Opus Hotel or a rideshare. For couples and wedding parties, arriving by car service or staying nearby makes the day a lot smoother.

The Bottom Line

Brix and Mortar does a lot of the heavy lifting for you. The space is already warm, already beautiful, already intimate. The team has hosted over 2,500 weddings in Yaletown and it shows in how effortless the day feels from the inside.

Being downtown is genuinely special. The parking situation is real, but it’s manageable with a little planning.
