Deep Cove Engagement Session | Quarry Rock Adventure
Hidden in North Vancouver is one of my favorite places. Deep Cove is quiet, calm, and has a backdrop that feels like something out of a movie. The way the light hits the water. The mountains in the distance. It just has this magic about it.
Alex and Rob chose Deep Cove for their engagement session because it’s not just beautiful. It’s meaningful. They love to explore together. They wanted this shoot to feel like an experience, not just a photo op. And that’s exactly what it turned into.
We Started Early
If you’ve ever been to Deep Cove, you know it gets busy. Especially on the weekends. We met just after sunrise, when the light was soft and the village was still waking up. The quiet made everything feel more personal. More real.
The Hike to Quarry Rock
The trail to Quarry Rock is about 2 kilometers up through forest and roots. It’s not hard, but it’s not flat either. We packed light. Water, snacks, and their outfits tucked into a backpack. The trick is hiking in something comfy and changing at the top. Way easier than trying to climb in dress shoes.
Views That Make You Pause
At the top, you’re rewarded with one of the best views on the North Shore. Belcarra across the inlet. Mount Baker if the skies are clear. And the village of Deep Cove far below. We took our time. Let the moment breathe. They changed into their “photo look” and it felt like everything just clicked.
A Session That Felt Like Them
Alex and Rob laughed the whole way up. They stopped to soak in the view. Shared stories. It wasn’t stiff or forced. It was just them, being themselves. That’s the kind of energy I aim for in every shoot. Natural. Honest. True to you.
Bonus Spots Around the Cove
After the hike, we explored the shoreline near Panorama Park. Some of my favorite frames came from those quiet, post-hike moments. Just the two of them, catching their breath and holding hands by the water.
Fuel Up at Honey’s
If you’re shooting here, don’t leave without grabbing a honey-glazed doughnut from Honey Doughnuts & Goodies. You earned it. We did.
Planning Your Own Deep Cove Engagement Session?
Here’s what I recommend:
Start early. Before 9 AM if possible. You’ll avoid the crowds and catch the best light.
Pack a second outfit. Hike up in something breathable, change into your photoshoot look at the top.
Bring snacks and water. The trail’s short but it helps keep your energy up.
Scout extra spots. A few minutes past Quarry Rock you’ll find quieter photo spots with the same view.
Check the trail status. Heavy rain can lead to closures or slippery sections. The District of North Van posts updates online.
Be mindful of bears. It’s rare, but worth making some noise on the trail and stashing food securely.
Support the local shops. A post-shoot doughnut or coffee adds a sweet ending to the adventure.
