I had never photographed here before. I’ve been to the Cleveland Dam above, but this trail at Capilano River Park in North Vancouver was new. And it felt special right away.

James and Catherine live nearby and often bring their dog Layla here for walks. The place already mattered to them before we started, which always makes photos more meaningful.

We followed the trails, stopping by the river, the stairs, and a giant tree that looked like it had been standing forever. They held hands. They laughed. They were just present with each other. That’s when the best photos happen.
Why This Location Works for Engagement Photos
Capilano River Park surprised me. Even in midday light, the trees softened everything in the nicest way. The greenery was vibrant and alive. You don’t need golden hour here. You just need the connection between you.

There’s so much variety in a small space. Wooden stairs, smooth trails, and water running in the background. It gives your photos texture and depth.

If you live on the North Shore, love nature, or want something quiet and relaxed, this park is a great choice. It’s even better if it’s already part of your routine, like walking your dog or spending weekends outdoors.

The session felt more like a walk than a photoshoot. It was a chance to slow down and enjoy the setting.
Some of my favourite moments were on the stairs where the light was perfect, and beside the huge tree that made them look small in the best way.
