Kyoto Cherry Blossoms in the Rain

It rained all day. We didn’t care.
Monica had rented a kimono and somehow made it feel like it had always been hers. We walked the old stone paths, soaked but happy, with nowhere else to be.

The Philosopher’s Path was quiet
The cherry blossoms were already fading. We just missed peak bloom, but even with half the petals gone, it still felt surreal. The canal was full of floating petals. The trees were holding on to the last blush of pink. It was cold but peaceful.

Heian Jingu wasn’t in the plan
We only meant to stop by for a second. Ended up staying longer than expected. No cherry trees, just red gates and soft rain. Monica stood in the middle of it all and it felt like time paused. We got some of our favorite photos there.

The colors hit different in the rain
Gray skies made everything pop. Her kimono, the gates, the stones. It didn’t feel posed. It felt like a painting that hadn’t finished drying.

You don’t need perfect weather
Kyoto in the rain is still Kyoto. Slower. Softer. Still full of magic. The blossoms don’t wait for sunshine and neither should you.
